Why is South Africa the most developed and the most advanced country in Africa? Didier Champion Didier Champion, Personal Development & Finance Coaching (2016-present) Answered Oct 15, 2018
South Africa is NOT the most developed nor the most advanced country in Africa. Setting people’s emotions aside, South Africa does not come close to other African countries.
Per HDI index, South Africa does NOT even come in the High HDI category. Their HDI is 0.699. A good number of African countries have theirs above 0.700, which put them in the High HDI category ( Mauritius, Seychelles, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana, Gabon, etc).
Per 2018 HDI index, South Africa comes around 7th or 8th.
Unless you are talking about white people and a few other elites in South Africa, South Africa as a country is NOT the most developed in Africa. In fact, they seem to be going backward with negative economic growth.
While I agree with some version of the “anonymous” answer, it is not factual. Cherry picking games at their best. Isn’t GDP per capita and HDI a good measure for economic strength and overall quality of life?
