For those not with the battles of the PC world: Shuttleworth, a few years ago, raised the ire of the Linux Community by introducing a new-look desktop for Ubuntu (called Unity) and scrapping the old Gnome one. The one problem with the Unity one is that one needs a graphics card. Big deal, you might say, but many Linux enthusiasts (on account of matters of finance) run old systems and in terms of money they often are at the younger (geek) end of the spectrum. Personally, I run Gnome 3 in the Classics mode and will probably switch to MATE!

Mate messed up my system and I had to reinstall. To be fair, there is a warning that it is still under development.
