Quite a lot of stuff on the internet. It is said that the most effective way is putting it in a microwave - but it affects the taste somewhat.
I have run a number of experiments - paper bag, newspaper, with onion, with banana, without either.
What works best?
Putting the avo's on a west facing window sill in the sun. I suspect that in summer it will work even better.

Most recent advice: Use a plastic bag instead of a paper bag. Much faster ripening times are claimed.

The plastic bag in fact works so well that my avo's have started going off before I could consume them all!
It is slower, but I prefer the avo on window sill method.
