The Cape is really coining it. X3 the infections/100000 Gauteng has. I wonder which geographical region is the worst hit.

Yesterday, of all countries South Africa reported the 4th most new infections identified for the day, at 13,674, behind the USA (61,067), Brazil (42,907) and India (25,790).
Currently, the number of new infections reported in South Africa doubles every 13 days. Which means that, by the end of July, South Africa should be reporting about 38,000 new cases daily. In reality, I suspect that South Africa's ability to track the infection rate with the protocols currently in place will probably break down within the next 4 weeks or so - it seems we are only capable of performing a maximum of about 50,000 tests a day, which is less than what the number of daily new infections will be.
At any rate, I'd guess that early in August we'd probably rival the USA for top of the list, except that Brazil and India may race us to get there first.
