Although it is not difficult to run from the command line, there is no GUI (AFAIK). It essentially means that dl is directed at a slighter more sophisticated market than the average casual user.
There is a multitude of these downloaders. Some work, some do not. In fact, dl in my opinion is a shadow of its former self and I am not talking YouTube stuff. Who would want to download that anyway - except in anticipation of a banning and then even that is not necessary as some websites exist based on YouTube censored clips . The weak link in the system is that stuff in effect has to be downloaded anyway on your system to be viewed. It is just a matter of keeping it a little longer. In fact, by implication one must be granted a free copyright licence to view anything.
The question also arises whether YouTube retains copyright protection on stuff they have banned.
