Dallas schools double up in expanding dual-language programDALLAS (AP) - At James S. Hogg Elementary in north Oak Cliff, a green poster celebrates changes introduced this year: “We Are a Proud Two-Way Dual Language Campus!”
The elementary is one of 24 in the Dallas school district that just began offering bilingual classes pairing native English speakers with native Spanish speakers.
The district is almost doubling its two-way dual-language program, totaling 51 of about 150 elementary schools, four middle schools and one high school.
This means more native English speakers will be getting 70 percent of their instruction from pre-K to first grade in Spanish.
Once they enter second grade, half of their instruction time is in English and half in Spanish.
