Cabinet approves end to captive breeding of lions and rhinos It remains to be seen whether this is a positive development - apart from the immediate deleterious financial effects and the destruction of livelihoods - which the constitution is supposed to protect. The phrase "may be regulated by law" has at least in some cases in the past been interpreted as not including the right to banish an activity implicitly or expressly. The Americans struggle with the same overall issue.

Government reveals roadmap to slam brakes on captive lion breeding Unless hunting of all animals is stopped, I fail to see the logic here. Wild is "farmed" these days - am I the only one aware of this? Is the saving grace that the buck after being killed can be eaten? In many cases the culinary aspect takes a back seat. The animals are hunted primarily as a "sport" - not to feed the nation. I imagine one could eat lion meat as well - or sell it to crocodile farms - a good old fashioned commercial activity then. For that matter, what happens to crocodiles bred for their skins?
