Federal appeals court will not immediately reinstate executive orders on immigration February 5, 2017 —A federal appeals court has upheld the ruling that blocked President Trump’s executive order that banned immigrants and travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries as well as refugees, shifting a week-long legal battle in favor of the immigrants, protesters, and Democrats who decried the ban. The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco denied the Justice Department’s request to reinstate the orders early Sunday, just over a day after a judge in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order on the bans nationwide. The order barred immigrants and visa holders from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen from entering the United States and placed a four-month-long ban on new refugees. ...

So the court decided against Trump (It will now go to the Supreme Court).
It would be rather cataclysmic if Achmed el Kadoffel or whatever manages to fly a plane into the Statue of Liberty or something right now, I think. A world changing event, no doubt.

In some circles the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco is known as the 9th circus. 3 out of every 4 of their cases are reversed by the supreme court .

Gees, neels, what a find!! I guess there are two possible motives here: (1) At least one of the judges sitting on that Circuit does not wish to be involved in any recriminations, should a terror attack occur. (2) On the other hand, they may wish to present a united front of solidarity - for whatever that is worth. Don't quote me on this but I have gleaned from between the lines in some reports that a successful appeal of the stay would require a majority of a certain number. This might mean that a decision becomes harder to overturn when reflecting the opinion of a greater number of judges.
