I dig the photos, though. Some of them are so familiar that I find myself looking if I'm not in there, somewhere. And I can even smell the rope, and the dust - sisal rope has a very distinctive smell when it has baked at 40° in the sun for half a day. And we forget that those were just little boys, really. At the time I resented it immensely and considered conscription to be a crime against humanity, being the entitled SOB I was. (In a way I still do, in fact). But in retrospect it was probably the best thing that had happened to me in my entire life. It gave me the tools to develop some sort of framework for finding meaning in my existence, which I did not have previously. And determination, vision and a work-ethic. I was well on my way towards becoming an aimless drifter, otherwise. Many experienced it differently, I dare say, but for me it was a genuine life-saver. (I did have a fabulous time of it, though, which is probably atypical).

Crime against humanity!
Much of it I could live with except the PT and the two years stolen from my life.
I am not sure that the skills I picked up served much good. One cannot run a business (outside the military) on those lines!
