Clive Derby-Lewis has through his lawyer apologised to Chris Hani’s wife for his murder.(SABC)
The High Court in Pretoria on Monday heard that Clive Derby-Lewis's apology to the family of murdered South African Communist Party (SACP) leader Chris Hani was "lip service".
Advocate Marumo Moerane, representing Justice Minister Michael Masutha, submitted that the applicants were just paying lip service to remorse.
Earlier, Derby Lewis apologised to Hani's widow through his lawyers for her husband’s assassination.
Lawyers for the 79-year-old are applying for an urgent review of Masutha's decision, not to grant him parole.
They want him released on medical parole so he can die at home.
The lawyers argue that Derby-Lewis has repeatedly shown remorse, which is a factor in granting parole.
