I am actually searching for some organ piece which woke me up in the middle of the night (fell asleep with radio). This comes close except it does not have the wave-like crescendos with the one wave simultaneously following the next.

Well, the one organ piece almost everybody knows (apart from the Widor one), i.e. the one you are most likely to hear on the radio, is the Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor?

Well, the one organ piece almost everybody knows (apart from the Widor one), i.e. the one you are most likely to hear on the radio, is the Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor? Much appreciated, but it is too melodious for the discordant, frightening, eerie, rhythmic ,"abstract" piece of music. Perhaps a toccata of sorts? The program was presented by Zanta Hofmeyr and it was a performance by a friend of hers. All this is reconstruction and sometimes I wonder what is accurate and what not! I even emailed RSG, got a reply from whomever is in charge, instructing his minions to help me. Never heard anything after that. They were very courteous, even helping me with another query. I suppose it is not really important.

I'll give it one more try - a wild shot in the dark, prompted by some similarity to the Widor toccata: You could always try to ask Zanta herself. What I know of these people is that they are usually flattered with that level of interest. The guys at RSG would probably not know what exactly she presented anyway, but I guess that she would likely have some notes somewhere with the list of recordings. The organist was probably Wim Viljoen - he would perhaps also know. All you really need is actually the list of recordings she played - then you can listen to all of them until you find the one you are looking for.

It was the last item she played at the end of the broadcast. So it should not be difficult to trace. The only problem is that it was probably a rebroadcast.

The SABC was good enough to provide a suggestion, but it was not that. Zanta confirmed that she did not present any such program. It was a rebroadcast and my impression is that no one knows what music (or program) was played. I am still sticking with Vierne and the following is a distinct possibility:

Probably not as good as the previous clip, but the interpretation is closer to what I recall.
