The player has a USB plug for a flash drive. I record media from YouTube onto a flash drive, which I then play on the DVD player. For the purpose of this note I used the Ubuntu 22.04 OS to prepare and record the flash drive. After an initial failed attempt I wrote to LG requesting assistance. They pointed out that the flash drive should be prepared in the FAT 16 or FAT 32 format. You can format a flash drive using the Ubuntu Disks utility if the flash drive is not already in the desired format. From the DVD player itself I noted that the file format itself should be Xvid. I used that eventually, but it may be noted that VOB files also play. Although mp4 files are apparently the preferred format for uploading files to YouTube, there seems very little information on the file format actually used by YouTube when downloading. As an experiment, I have just downloaded a file with Video Downloader and ended up with a WebM file That is perhaps a function of the downloader concerned as it seems that files can be downloaded in various formats (or perhaps they are just being converted as they are downloaded). Be it as it may, the point is that you most likely will have to convert the downloaded file to Xvid. For that I used Shutter Encoder (which is available on Synaptic). Many of the functions listed above can apparently be done with VLC, but personally, apart from mere playback, I find the app confusing, irritating and baggy.
