Personally, I feel that if you are not a professional photographer, it is not going to matter and you may as well go for the lesser expensive option.
A mirrorless camera is not going to make you take better pictures. Also, many enthusiastic amateurs over time acquired a small collections of lenses and accessories, so for them the main thing is probably to get a new camera which is compatible with the stuff they already have.
I gather mirrorless cameras can be smaller and lighter than a DSLR. For some people that may be a requirement. For me, it is not.
I'm basically locked into Canon, because that is the stuff I already have, and I would tend to go for the camera with the highest resolution, and then select the cheapest one in that range, which would probably be a DSLR. i.e. resolution is king.
