South Africa: Are New Coalition Laws Needed?
There are literally hundreds of registered parties in SA. The IEC website quoted provides no dates but presumably it is up to date. I also suspect that it does not take account of independents. To bring order to this mess the numbers need to be reduced. This will be no easy task. In fact, I am not sure how it is to be done. I also think that at present the smaller parties use the political system as a cash cow, with very little regard for effective political representation.
